Get Ready For "The ReUp" From BBG

The upcoming Detroit card features Aye Verb, Midwest Miles, Pass, JC, Jay Rell, Big Kannon and more.

Two battle rap emcees whose top-notch lyrical skills shaped the Midwest movement will step back into the ring to face off again.

On Saturday, July 30, Detroit's Barbarian Battle Ground league and Royalty Records are joining together to bring battle rap fans "The ReUp."

"It’s that old hustler’s creed of taking your pros and deciding to reup with more work," Detroit emcee Quest Mcody, founder of BBG Battles, told BattleRap.com. "We’re not waiting for the next ‘Power.’ We’re going to reup now."

The weekend event brings top-tier talent to a region known for a vibrant local battle rap scene that has produced many stars, and influenced countless others through 8 Mile's portrayal of it.

The main event of the night will be a rematch between battle rap veterans Midwest Miles and Aye Verb. The two emcees previously sparred at the "Midwest Massacre" event in St. Louis back in 2010. The event was a joint effort hosted by Street Status and Smack/URL.

The original match-up was one of Mcody’s favorite battles and a verbal sparring match he said the two emcees were ready to re-do in the Motor City.

"Miles versus Aye Verb is a battle that helped start the Midwest movement. These are two emcees that have taken some of the biggest names in their tenure," Mcody said. "It’s a battle I think Detroit should have the opportunity to see live."

The full lineup for the July 30 event includes:

  • Midwest Miles vs. Aye Verb
  • JC vs. Pass
  • Jay Rell vs. Big Kannon
  • Dyce Rolla vs. Super Black
  • Al Jones vs. Boss Kellz
  • Looney Bars vs. Ash Cash

The Detroit card is the BBG debut for each emcee, excluding Midwest Miles.

JC vs. Pass should bring fireworks, and is an exciting enough match-up that we'll have a separate preview of it.

Another battle to look out for is between Looney Bars and Ash Cash. The two have traded jabs on social media and even have a $1,000 bet for the winner.

Mcody said he hopes the event will give each emcee a local fan base of die-hard supporters.

"This card is about broadening the opportunities for our die-hard battle fans," Mcody said. "I want these emcees to be able to have home games and a home crowd who loves them. This is the future of our culture."

The event goes down from 3:00-9:00 p.m. at Bleu Detroit, 1540 Woodward Ave. Detroit, Mich. 48226.
